Day 6 - Bay Of Islands To Coromandel Via Auckland
This morning drop off your rental car at Kerikeri Airport.
Suggested flight -
Depart Kerikeri Airport at 9.30am aboard Air New Zealand flight NZ2651, arriving in Auckland at 10:10am.
Upon arrival at Auckland Airport pick up your medium-sized, automatic, air-conditioned rental vehicle with unlimited mileage and daily vehicle insurance.
Drive south over the Bombay Hills and on to Kopu. Travel over the mountain range, deeply cut through rugged country following an old horse trail of the gold-rush days to Pauanui and the magnificent Coromandel Peninsula (approx 2.5hrs)
Along with its natural beauty – misty rainforests and pristine beaches the Coromandel’s historical past is rich and colourful. Captain Cook visited the area in 1769 and observed the transit of the planet Mercury across the face of the sun, hence the names of some of the region’s beaches and bays – Cooks Beach and Mercury Bay.
Accommodation (2 nights) in a double/twin treehut chalet including breakfast at:
Lakes Resort, Pauanui , Coromandel Peninsula
Day 7 - Coromandel Peninsula
This morning we suggest a round of golf at the recently opened Lakes Resort Course. The moment you approach the first tee you experience an extraordinary sense of calm. This is your private sanctuary without distraction or intrusion. The 6,171mete par 71 layout is definitely a player’s course. The idea was to create a course that can be a formidable test, challenging but not impossible.
This afternoon take the opportunity to explore the peninsula, if the tide is right visit Hotwater Beach and see the boiling water bubbling out of the sand. You can hike into majestic Cathedral Cove or stroll along the beautiful white sands of Hahei Beach. Alternatively you may enjoy a cruise on the Hahei Explorer visiting the many bays along the coast.
Day 8 - Pauanui To Taupo
Today, return to Kope and travel via Paeroa, Matamata, Tirau and Tokaroa to Taupo (approx 4hrs).
Lake Taupo is located within the volcanic central plateau region of the North Island set amidst spectacular mountain scenery and beautiful native bush. The region offers some of the best fishing in New Zealand for both rainbow and brown trout, in either the lake, the two major rivers, the Tongariro and the Waikato and numerous smaller streams.
