Blenheim

Blenheim is at the heart of New Zealand’s wine industry with 80% of New Zealand’s grapes grown here. While you are here you could:

  • Tour some of NZ’s most famous wineries by bicycle.
  • Visit the nearby Omaka Air Museum. Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings fame was involved in setting up some of the displays and he owns many of the planes.
  • Visit Omaka Classic Cars with over 100 cars
  • Dine in one of the many local winery restaurants such as Herzog’s Estate Restaurant

Nelson

A beautiful coastal city famous for its sunny weather and relaxed pace of life.

While you are in Nelson you could:

  • Spend time wandering the quaint city centre
  • Visit the Hoglund Art Glass Studio & Gallery
  • Visit the World of Wearable Art & Classic Cars Museum
  • Visit the Icon Gallery featuring work form local artists as well as a range of carefully curated New Zealand artworks
  • Tour some of New Zealand’s best craft breweries and sample beer made with local hops

The Abel Tasman National Park

A full day for a trip into the Abel Tasman National Park. Suggest driving to Marahau from where you take a water taxi to Torrent Bay and enjoy a coastal walk to Bark Bay, with picnic lunch on the beach. Or, maybe take the Beaches, Bays, & Seals trip.

Punakaiki

Watch the of sunset over the thundering Tasman Sea and wind-weathered Punakaiki Rocks.

Be sure to take the 30 minute Pancake Rocks walk to see the blow holes and rugged rock formations. Walk on the beach and take the short Truman Track through rainforest to the beach. In the evening have a drink at the local pub and say hi to Pete the bartender.

The West Coast

Drive on what is the most scenic drive in New Zealand—along the West Coast with it’s rugged beaches; rain forests; 18 peaks over 12,000 feet; and glaciers coming down to sea level. Note: Travel book Lonely Planet has recently rated this South Island Highway as one of the world’s greatest road trips.

Stop in Hokitika which offers good shopping for West Coast crafts. (visit the Gold Store!)

15 miles south of Hokitika you can experience the West Coast Treetops Walk. An exhilarating treetop adventure among temperate rainforest giants.

Experience life with the birds high in the ancient Rimu and Kamahi tree canopy. Easy access for all to enjoy along a steel platform 20 metres high and over 450 metres long. A leisurely 45 minute to one hour stroll through the beautiful West Coast rainforest tree tops.

Franz Josef/Fox Glaciers

Take a helicopter ride over the numerous glaciers in this area, over Aoraki/Mt Cook (New Zealand’s highest mountain) and even land on the glacier to see it close up. Take a walk up to the Franz Josef or Fox glaciers and walk around picturesque Lake Matheson for photographs of Mt Cook reflected in its mirror-like surface.

The Haast Pass and Wanaka

Enjoy more breath-taking scenery as you head south and cross over the Haast Pass. Stop in Wanaka to admire the mountains, lake and cafés. Then continue the drive over the Crown Range Road to Queenstown (1 hr.) with a quick stop to see the Cardrona Hotel, one of NZ’s oldest pubs.

Queenstown

One of New Zealand’s most picturesque towns. The peaks of The Remarkables soar up to over 7,500 feet above Lake Wakatipu.

On the drive into Queenstown you might stop and visit one of the award winning wineries along the route. Maybe cruise across lake Wakatipu on the TSS Earnslaw to Walter Peak High Country Farm for a BBQ dinner.

Suggest a flight to Milford for cruise on Milford Sound -then fly back to Queenstown. Still time for a jet boat ride on the Shotover Jet or perhaps a Nomad Safaris; Lord of the Rings; 4WD trip to Skippers Canyon or Macetown.

You could also:

  • Hike or take the chair lift to Bob’s Peak for lunch
  • Go kayaking
  • Horseback riding
  • Whitewater rafting
  • Maybe visit Arrowtown for shopping
  • You might go bungy jumping; fly by wire; tandem hang gliding.

Queenstown is the activity center of New Zealand and there are a wide range of activities to experience.

The Dart River

Drive along one of the worlds’ Top 10 scenic drives to Glenorchy at the head of the Lake Wakatipu for an 8:45am check-in at the Dart River Jet Safaris base in Mull Street.

From here journey deep into the World Heritage area of Mt Aspiring National Park. Learn from your guide about the areas history, including the Pounamu Trail, legends of the Maori and tales of the early settlers.

Walk amongst the ancient beech forest, unchanged for 80 million years. Experience a unique combination of breath taking scenery and exciting jet boating on braided, glacier fed rivers. Pass by scenes used in the Lord of the Rings movies to illustrate Middle Earth.

Safari includes a scenic back-road 4WD journey; an easy guided 30-40min walk through the ‘Heritage Trail’ at Paradise and a 1.5hr jet boat ride. Trip duration: approx. 6hrs.

Milford Sound

Drive to Te Anau (2+hrs) and on into Fiordland National Park to Milford Sound for an overnight cruise.

Cruise the length of the Sound to the Tasman Sea with an onboard nature guide who has specialist knowledge of the region’s history, flora & fauna.

Activities include kayaking and excursions to explore the coastline.

Maison Grange, Blenheim

Located on an 10 acre Pinot Noir vineyard property in the heart of Marlborough’s wine country was originally built as a winery and has been affectionately known by the locals as The Barn’.

Clifftops Retreat, Nelson
